Another Year Begins

Welcome 2011. Let’s begin the year with a look at an extreme guerrilla crochet artist named Olek. You may have seen her crocheted cover for the Wall Street bull sculpture. It didn’t last long. Here’s a video of Olek working on the bull sculpture cover One of the reasons I find Olek so interesting is her heritage. She is Polish, born and raised. I learned to crochet from my Polish grandmother. What is it about the Polish and crochet? Of course, my grandmother whipped out the traditional bed covers, shawls and scarves, nothing as elaborate as what Olek creates. But still I wonder about the connection between the birthplace of Poland and the ability to crochet. I guess I need to do some further research on the subject. For now, wander through Olek’s site and watch the videos. You’ll be impressed.
