Mickey Plate

Fun with photographs. I turned this photo mickey03into a 10.5″ melamine plate. It is fabulous. You should make a plate out of one of your photos too. Such fun.

For The Birds

3 birdsYesterday my favorite catalog arrived in my mailbox. Wisteria. I dream of buying many items from their glossy pages. I’m tempted to visit their outlet here in Dallas, but my pocketbook makes me realize that I would have to leave there empty handed. So I lust over their pages of wonderful goodies I don’t need but want oh so bad. This latest issue has me longing for the various birds they offer. Here’s a selection of the winged goods I’m lusting after today. What do you think, aren’t these some fine feathered finds?

Wisteria

I got the new Wisteria catalog in the mail yesterday. If you have never heard of Wisteria, let me be the first to tell you that they have very cool catalogs filled with wonderful photos of drool worthy home furnishings. They happen to be headquartered in Dallas. Those of us that live here can visit their outlet and drool in person. If you aren’t lucky enough to live here, sign up for their catalog here.

Turning the pages of the new catalog, I dreamed I was rich and was just in the mood to redecorate so I flipped through the pages and mentally ordered some new furniture. Of course in this dream I also had no cats or dogs that would destroy my new furniture. Ah day dreaming. So do you want to know what I’m lusting for in the new catalog? Of course you do.

This fabulous chest I see in every catalog they send me and every time I long to see it in my house. I think it is the most beautiful functional piece of art. All that inlay. The gorgeous pattern. I think it is stunning.

Staying in that black and white theme, this couch is such a fabulous work of art as well. The dhurrie upholstery is wonderful and I love the shape of the couch itself.

After picking out a new couch and chest, I figured I’d pick up a decorative item as well and spied these fun birds. They would look marvelous on the chest. These lovely birds on stands are the perfect pets for my day dream house.

Well, this mental shopping trip was so much fun, I plan on adding to my new mental decor when the next catalog arrives.

Enjoy.

Dachshunds

I live with two very messy terrier mutts. I love them. But for some reason, I seem to be obsessed with dachshunds as of late. I’m crocheting a red one currently, and I recently drew a couple on fabric to make pillows. I guess it is better that I draw and crochet the cute little wiener dogs rather than adopting a couple. Lord knows I have enough critters to take care of now, seven cats plus those two terriers keep me chasing fur and emptying litter boxes. Here’s the two hand drawn dachshund pillows that are available for adoption in my Etsy shop. Click on the picture and you’ll be whisked away to learn more about them. Enjoy.

Frida’s Gone To Pieces

I love my Frida bowl. I bought it 14 years ago from a Mexican vendor at the grand opening celebration for the first Dart rail station in Dallas. And for the last 14 years it has graced our dining room table with its simple beauty. Occasionally, one of our cats will curl up and nap inside the bowl. Last night, some unidentified member(s) of our feline family decided that it was time for a new bowl. I found Frida in pieces this morning on the floor.

I gave up looking for another one on the web today. Too many Fridas, none in bowls. If anyone out there reading this should know where to find another, I’d appreciate the information.

Someday

We live in an old fifties converted duplex. I call it our double wide. The living room is wide and narrow. We have two kitchens, one for us and one for the laundry and critters. We have two small, original ceramic tile unappealing bathrooms. Lately I have been dreaming about gutting the bathroom closest to our bedroom. Between the bathroom and the bedroom is a utility closet with the furnace and water heater. I’d like to swap places, make the bathroom part of our bedroom like they do now with newer houses. Modernize it. All I need is lots of money. But that won’t stop me from looking at new bathroom vanities and toilets and paint and tile and light fixtures. You know, the fun stuff. This is my current pick for sink replacement. Going from fifties funky to modern. What do you think?

Creative Reuse

creative reuseThis cool book of fantastic recycled art and more will be available at bookstores November 1. Amazon has it now. There’s a section near the back called “Art, Interiors + Installations” and on pages 292-293, you’ll find three photos of my hallway of postcards. Google books has a searchable version of the book and this is the link to my pages. Here’s a sneak peak:

FREE RUG

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Thanks to everyone who entered, I loved reading where you would use this fabulous rug. Very inspirational. I should have thought about hanging it up so the cats couldn’t get to it.

The winner was picked using the list randomizer from random.org. And the lucky future owner of this very cool rug is:

jenny s-g

Congratulations jenny s-g, I hope your new rug looks marvelous in your craft room and chases all the beige blah-ness away. (more…)
