Thinking About Patterns
I often get asked if I offer patterns for my critter creations, specifically, crochet patterns. I always say no, that I just make it up as I go along. But I’ve been thinking of attempting to document my crochet work and perhaps make some patterns available. I work with lots of unusual, one of kind finds yarns mostly when I create my critters. But I have been known to use readily available yarns as well and that is what I would design my patterns to utilize. The pictured critters were all made using easy to find yarns. And these are probably the kinds of critter patterns I would offer initially. So here’s the question for you: are there any readers who would be willing to test my patterns? I would provide free patterns and would love for you to crochet a critter following my instructions and report back to me where it does and does not work and provide photos for me to review. Please leave comment or email me at info@pattihaskins.com if you’re interested. I probably won’t have any patterns ready to be tested until August, so keep that in mind. Thanks for reading and hope to hear from some of you regarding testing.
For The Birds
Yesterday my favorite catalog arrived in my mailbox. Wisteria. I dream of buying many items from their glossy pages. I’m tempted to visit their outlet here in Dallas, but my pocketbook makes me realize that I would have to leave there empty handed. So I lust over their pages of wonderful goodies I don’t need but want oh so bad. This latest issue has me longing for the various birds they offer. Here’s a selection of the winged goods I’m lusting after today. What do you think, aren’t these some fine feathered finds?
Happy Holidays
I’ve been busy, busy, busy for the last couple of weeks but I thought I should stop what I was doing and wish everyone a happy holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Beyond Crocheted Critters
Sometimes I get bored crocheting critters. Sometimes. Today is one of those sometimes. I am in the middle of creating a custom crocheted critter destined to be a Valentine’s Day gift so I can not procrastinate as much as I would like to. If I didn’t have this deadline in my face, I think I would still want to spend the weekend crocheting, but not a critter. No, I would be trying to figure out how to make this dress since there is no way on this planet that I can afford to plunk down $550 for a dress no matter how incredibly gorgeous it is.
Yes, I believe it is worth every penny. It is hand crocheted. It looks amazing. It is made of Pima cotton. Look at those colors. Look at those stitches. I want this dress. I need this dress. I am obsessed with this dress.
Damn you Peruvian Connection and your wonderful works of art that I will never be able to afford. Sigh. End of rant. Back to critter creation.
Ornamental Iron
Last night’s photographic study of the chairs on my backyard deck.
Wisteria
I got the new Wisteria catalog in the mail yesterday. If you have never heard of Wisteria, let me be the first to tell you that they have very cool catalogs filled with wonderful photos of drool worthy home furnishings. They happen to be headquartered in Dallas. Those of us that live here can visit their outlet and drool in person. If you aren’t lucky enough to live here, sign up for their catalog here.
Turning the pages of the new catalog, I dreamed I was rich and was just in
the mood to redecorate so I flipped through the pages and mentally ordered some new furniture. Of course in this dream I also had no cats or dogs that would destroy my new furniture. Ah day dreaming. So do you want to know what I’m lusting for in the new catalog? Of course you do.
This fabulous chest I see in every catalog they send me and every time I long to see it in my house. I think it is the most beautiful functional piece of art. All that inlay. The gorgeous pattern. I think it is stunning.
Staying in that black and white theme, this couch is such a fabulous work of art as well. The dhurrie upholstery is wonderful and I love the shape of the couch itself.
After picking out a new couch and chest, I figured I’d pick up a decorative item as well and spied these fun birds. They would look marvelous on the chest. These lovely birds on stands are the perfect pets for my day dream house.
Well, this mental shopping trip was so much fun, I plan on adding to my new mental decor when the next catalog arrives.
Enjoy.
Day of Kitty Dead
I made this fabric collage to honor all the cats I’ve known and loved over the years which are sadly no longer with me. I utilized the visual themes of the Day of the Dead, the Mexican holiday in early November that honors and celebrates the deceased. Meow.

This fabric collage wall hanging is now available in my Etsy shop.
